Head honoredas player of week
NILES -- Mahoning Valley Scrappers first baseman Stephen Head has been named the New York-Penn League Player of the Week for July 3-9.
Head collected 10 hits and three home runs while batting .417 in 24 at bats. He had an on-base percentage of .548, while slugging .917.
Head (second round selection of the Cleveland Indians) has appeared in nine games, batting .441. He has 15 hits, five home runs and 13 RBI.
Wendell Yost of Vermont received Pitcher of the Week honors.
Struthers Highsets key meeting
STRUTHERS -- The Struthers Athletic Department is conducting mandatory pre-season student and parent meetings on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Fieldhouse.
Sports involved are middle school, freshman and varsity football; middle school and varsity cross country; middle school and varsity volleyball; and girls tennis. All participants and their parents are expected to attend.
Warren's Pagefights tonight
WARREN -- Warren cruiserweight Zack Page will fight in a return bout six rounder with Anthony Williams from Whiteside, W. Va., on a seven-bout card tonight at the Days Inn in Butler, Pa.
Page (7-2, 3 KOs) has won his last six bouts, with one of those wins a four-round unanimous decision over Williams (3-6-1 2 KOs) on April 22 in Wheeling.
McDonald's Smithearns a draw
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. -- McDonald heavyweight Adam Smith had his pro ring record go to 4-6-1 Saturday when he fought a four-round draw with John Shaffer (2-0-1) from Morgantown.
After two fairly even rounds, Smith began to work to Shaffer's body very effectively in the third and fourth rounds. When the bout ended, two judges voted 39-38 for Smith with a third judge voting 39-38 for Shaffer giving Smith a split decision victory.
But after Smith and Bayley were back in the dressing rooms, an official notified them that there was a scoring error and the fight verdict was officially a draw.

Cavs, Illgauskasreach contract
LAS VEGAS -- Zydrunas Ilgauskas will be back in Cavaliers uniform. The All-Star center and the team came to an agreement on a contract Monday. A league insider said it was worth between $55 and $60 million over the next five years.
Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry and Ilgauskas' agent, Herb Rudoy, worked through many issues to get the contract done in a process that took several weeks.
After being stagnant for a week, the talks heated up Sunday. It is believed the fifth year of the deal is not fully guaranteed, but Ilgauskas can make it guaranteed if he reaches certain games-played incentives.
Twins acquireBret Boone
MINNEAPOLIS -- Three-time All-Star second baseman Bret Boone was acquired by the Minnesota Twins on Monday, eight days after being designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners.
The Mariners, who had 10 days to trade Boone, will also send cash to the Twins in exchange for a player to be named. Boone's salary for this season is $8.25 million. He was designated for assignment by Seattle on July 3 in a disappointing, tearful end to his career there.
The Twins hope Boone will help bolster their young infield.
A 12-year veteran with 252 career homers, Boone was batting .231 with seven homers and 34 RBIs for the struggling Mariners when he was cut.
In 2001, Boone hit .331 with 37 home runs and 141 RBIs. He finished third in the AL MVP vote that year, but he has steadily declined at the plate since then.
Five crew chiefs fined for infractions
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR fined the crew chief for Johnny Sauter $15,000 on Monday after Sauter's car failed inspection at Daytona International Speedway.
Joel Shear was fined $10,000 for using unapproved rear coil spring mounts before the Pepsi 400 on July 2. He was also fined $5,000 because the infraction violated his probation that was imposed in April.
Four other crew chiefs were also fined Monday for rules violations before the Daytona race.
Dan Kolanda, crew chief for Morgan Shepherd, was fined $10,000 for also using unapproved rear coil spring mounts, while Bobby Hamilton Jr.'s crew chief, Harold Holly, was hit with a $10,000 fine for using an unapproved oil reservoir tank cover.
Glenn Darrow, crew chief for Kevin Lepage, was fined $2,500 for using unapproved fuel cell foam, while Tony Eury Jr., crew chief for Michael Waltrip, was fined $500 for missing the prerace driver's meeting.
Dolphins' McMichael arrested again
GROVETOWN, Ga. -- Miami Dolphins tight end Randy McMichael is facing charges for the second time in 13 months for allegedly hitting his wife.
McMichael was arrested early Saturday in Columbia County after witnesses told police that he had given his wife, Cawanna, a bloody nose.
