MANTLE TOURNAMENT Rondinelli advances with three-run ninth
R & amp;J Trucking won while Dave Sugar Excavating lost in the first round.
STRUTHERS -- Rondinelli scored three times in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Boys of Summer 15s, 5-2, Saturday in the first round of the AABC Mickey Mantle (16 & amp;under) Tournament at Cene Park.
Corey Gruelle had three hits and Mike Hoelzel added two for the winners.
Dan Banna tossed 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win. He had four strikeouts and allowed one hit.
Andrew Dobson pitched the first 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts for Rondinelli. Alex Loftin went the first eight innings and struck out 11 for Boys.
Cleveland Glove Masters 11,Dave Sugar Excavating 3
Sugar Excavating was the first local team to lose in the tournament.
Andy Richey, Eric Pirtz and Andrew Grzebleniak had a pair of hits each for Sugar while Anthony Sirna and Andrew Nemecek had three hits each for the winners.
Jeff Welsh pitched a complete game for the mound win.
R & amp;J Trucking 4, Thunder Select 3
R & amp;J rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win. Xavier Godoy and Greg Brown had a pair of hits each while Nick Muscari tossed a complete game for the victory on the mound. He had four strikeouts.
Joe Leeworthy drove home the winning run with a sacrifice fly.
Andrew Dailey had a pair of hits for Thunder.
Class AA
Jonathan Habuda, Pat Oman and Josh Conkey each had two hits to led Youngstown Metros over Penn-Ohio, 4-2.
Brett Pitzulo drove in two runs and Mike Holmes was the winning pitcher.
For Penn-Ohio, Andrew Golubic and Glen Morris had two hits apiece.
Lone Wolf 11,Predator Trucking 4
Justin Kurilichick hit two doubles and scored twice for Lone Wolf, in an 11-4 win over Predator Trucking.
Brian Smith had three hits, scored three runs and drove in two runs. Chris Palm and T.J. Groaner also had two hits.
For Predator, Jason Darocha had two hits.
D & amp;K Roofing 2,Bazetta-Cortland Optimists 1
Winning pitcher Anthony Jones tossed a complete game.
For Optimists, Adam Sturm and Mark Yartz each had two hits.
Metro Ice 12, LBW Red Dawgs 1
Jeremy Krol doubled and homered for Ice. Don Marsh went the distance on the mound, striking out 10 while giving up only two hits.
Champion Molded Plastics 6,Lone Wolf Freight Systems 2
Mike Sweeney's three hits included a double as Champion improved to 17-7. Ryan Dillon's two doubles drove in two runs and he scored twice.
Winning pitcher Mike Price struck out eight batters while Tyson Rowland, Jason Johnson and Mike Strohzewski each had two hits.
Lone Wolf's Brian Smith had two hits.
MTC Knights 13,Bazetta-Cortland Optimists 7
The Knights (12-6) scored eight runs in the second inning and four in the fifth to breeze to victory. Brian Tate had four hits while Rick DiMuzio and Torrie Frangiamore had two each. Frangiamore scored twice and drove in two runs.
For Optimists, Adam Strum's three hits included a double. Eric Lance and Ryan Monti each had two hits while Steve Boxler hit a three-run homer.
