HEALTH CARE Solution debate

Feeling blue? Health care costs are rising, and 45 million Americans have no insurance.
The cure? Advocates of a single-payer insurance system -- where the government would collect taxes and cover everyone -- are counting on frustration with the current system to turn the tide in at least one state by the end of the decade.
Bad medicine? Mainstream medical groups, including the American Medical Association, oppose single-payer systems. The AMA fears they would stifle the development of new medical technology and create longer waits for patient care.
