Forum presents scholarships at June show



YOUNGSTOWN -- The Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area held its June flower show June 25 and 26 at the Davis Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek MetroParks.
Chairwoman for the event was Jean Davidson, and judges were Joyce Dunbar, Judy Smith and Elsie DeHoff.
Presentation
During the June 25 show, $500 scholarships were awarded to Krystal Tubberville of Orwell and Zachary Wike of Brookfield, both attending Ohio State University in the fall, and Paul J. Majirsky of Berlin Center, a Kent State University student.
Receiving blue ribbons in design were: Elsie DeHoff, Austintown; Pearl Marlos and Rose Marie Roth, Gleaners; Beverly Patrick, Ikebana; Esther Bertch, Nature Lovers; and Dorothy Haddox, Our Lady of Fatima.
Winners of best of show in design were: DeHoff, ribbon of designers choice; Marlos, tri-color ribbon award; Roth, ribbon of distinction; and Haddox, ribbon of petite award.
Blue ribbons in horticulture went to: Rae Jones, Mary Schall, Margaret Raupach, Bobbie Kalmer and Norma McMahon, all of Austintown; Linda Blood, Daphne; Marlos and Millie Campean, Gleaners; Patrick, Ikebana; Carol Estok and Stephanie Sheely, Lowellville; Alice Sassone and Carol Lunger, members at large; Sheila Bowman, Diana Mullins, Beverly Italiano and Bertch, all of Nature Lovers; Haddox, Our Lady of Fatima; Roxanne Macynski, public; Aimee Lynch, public; Martha Murphy, St. Edward; and Kathleen Willingham, TCHS.
Gold seals in horticulture were re eived by Bowman, Nature Lovers, and Sheely, Lowellville, and best of show with a ribbon of horticulture excellence went to Willingham, TCHS. A ribbon of appreciation was awarded to Charlene Flesch, Immaculate Heart, in education.
