Courthouse Square to recall Victorian era during house tour and tea

The weekend will include musical entertainment and a car show.
MERCER, Pa. -- Courthouse Square will take a trip back in time for Victorian Weekend Saturday and Sunday.
Mercer's downtown will be decorated for the Victorian era, featuring antiques and period displays. Even shopkeepers will be dressed in Victorian styles.
Many of the events during the weekend will take place around the courthouse, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Although there are numerous events that are free to the public, some events require reservations and tickets.
Next Sunday, there will be a Victorian tea at the Legacy Banquet and Conference Center at 3 p.m. Reservations are required and tickets are $15 per person.
House tour
The Victorian Weekend House Tour will run from 1 to 5 p.m. next Sunday for those who are interested in a glimpse into the Gilded Age. The tour will feature the John Orr house, which was built in 1905 and has elements of Greek Revival. The Christina Lindsey House, an Italianate brick house, was built in 1881 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The McCain House was initially built in 1850 and an addition was added in 1880. It is a prime example of a Victorian era house inside and out. The Reznor Home is a white frame home built in 1910. The Mehard Manor is a Georgian Colonial built in 1913.
Advance tickets for the house tour can be purchased for $6 by calling the Chamber of Commerce office at (724) 662-4185 from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Tickets will be sold for $7 at the information booth on the Courthouse lawn Saturday and at Shannon's Kandy Kitchen on Sunday.
