Color of a big change

Karen Clark-Green began performing in musicals at the age of 4 in Warren.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Karen Clark-Green is making her dreams come true, with a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work.
A play she wrote, "The Color of Love," is currently in the planning stage for production in Los Angeles, and she plans to relocate along with her play.
Clark-Green is known for her wide-ranging talent. She enjoys writing, singing, dancing and acting in genres of the arts. She teaches, choreographs, acts and directs various programs throughout the community.
Currently the executive director of Archangel Dance Theater, she began performing in the arts when she was 4. While growing up in Warren, she started appearing in musical theater productions with John Kinley and the Kinley Players at Packard Music Hall.
'Color of Love'
Clark-Green is performing and producing the fifth play she has written. "Color of Love" tells the emotional story of a young, interracial couple and co-stars D.C Colvin, a fellow Archangel Dance Theater member.
The play was originally performed at Youngstown State University in February for Black History Month and directed by David Vosburgh. It was also recently performed at the Hippodrome in Warren.
"Color of Love" will begin a nationwide tour in the fall, starting in southern Ohio.
Clark-Green is working with Tommy Magavero of Cornerstone Pictures in Hollywood to produce the play in Los Angeles.
Well-known professional actors are being sought for the production of "Color of Love," Clark-Green said.
Indie gathering
Clark-Green placed high in a screen actors competition, part of the national independent film festival in Cleveland last month.
Although she is primarily a stage actress, Clark-Green thought she would give the contest a try after attending a screen acting workshop.
After performing a 90-second monologue, she was awarded third place by a judging panel of casting directors, producers and film directors. There, she met Tommy Magavero of Cornerstone Pictures.
"I never thought about getting into film at this point in my life. It wasn't on my immediate agenda. I was shocked that I won, I was nervous because I had little film experience."
Books
On top of "Curse of the Strong Woman" and four other plays, Clark-Green has already written three books.
"Resurrection of the Levites" and "Resurrection of the Levites II" are about the involvement of the arts in the church.
Several colleges currently use the books as textbook in various courses.
"The Curse of the Strong Woman" is Clark-Green's most recent book. It looks into the roles women play throughout their lives.
She is also looking into writing for films.
