Carriage collection rolls into town

JEFFERSON -- One of the largest and finest known collections of wicker baby and doll carriages dating from 1860 to 1910 is at a museum here.
The Victorian Perambulator Museum of Jefferson, Ashtabula County, plans an exhibition of "Carriages in Nature" from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 30 and 1 to 5 p.m. July 31.
The museum is at 26 E. Cedar St. off state Route 46, behind the Great Lakes dealership. The owners are Judith Kaminski and Janet Pallo.
The regular hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Admission for adults is $4; children, $3.
For this month's exhibition, however, that admission is cut to $3 and $2.50. The show will offer carriages in their natural surroundings and showcase the artwork of Art Fronckowiak.
Fronckowiak was voted Best Florida Artist in 1995, and his work has received wide recognition and has been exhibited extensively. His home studio is in Venice, Fla.

Its early wicker baby and doll carriages are handmade and intricate in design, reflecting the tastes and styles of America's Victorian era.
The museum also exhibits pre-1900 children's items such as sleds, dolls, farm wagons, toys, books, games and pictures.
