YOUNGSTOWN -- Angeline Rich, an Ursuline High School student, is taking part in the People to People Leadership Summit going on through July 16 at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
People to People was founded in 1956 by Dwight D. Eisenhower to foster world citizenship.
Students from around the world are focusing on leadership, team building, community service, college admissions and professional aspirations.
Rich was accepted based on scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential.
She will have the opportunity to build her college r & eacute;sume & acute; while earning academic and service learning credit.
Rich lives in Canfield with her parents, Will and Lori Bagnola. She is also the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rich of Columbiana.
Eighth-grader attendsYoung Leaders Conference
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tommy Rouzzo, an eighth-grade pupil at Boardman Center Middle School, joined 200 middle school pupils from across the United States to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
The theme of the conference was "The Legacy of American Leadership" and was June 25 to July 4.
During the program, Rouzzo met elected officials and staff members on Capitol Hill. Participants also visit historical sites to include Colonial Williamsburg, Harpers Ferry, the National Museum of American History and sites around Washington.
The conference explored the impact of American leadership throughout history and current political issues.
Tommy, 13, is the son of Susan Bayus and Thomas Rouzzo Jr. He will be an eighth-grader this fall at Boardman Center Middle School, where he will be in the eighth-grade jazz ensemble and concert band. He is also a member of Boy Scout Troop 101 in Struthers.
Two Columbiana schools honored for nutrition
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Department of Education honored schools in two Columbiana County school districts among 120 Ohio schools recognized as "2005 Stellar Award for Best Nutrition Practices" winners.
The awards were presented June 17 at the Ohio School Food Service Association's annual conference in Columbus.
East Palestine Middle and High schools received the award in addition to an Honorable Mention for East Palestine High School.
Crestview Elementary, Middle and High schools also received an Honorable Mention.
Two hundred schools throughout Ohio applied for the Stellar Award. The organization judges schools based on several categories of meal service.
Award criteria include: Types of meals served, meal quality, availability of healthy meals and nutrition education.
Boardman High juniorattends leadership camp
BOARDMAN -- Gina Peyko, a Boardman High School junior, was the only student from Mahoning County to attend the Ohio Leadership Institute leadership camp June 24-26 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Columbus.
More than 100 high school students were in attendance from around the state. They learned to build, enhance and expand leadership skills.
Gina is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Peyko of Boardman.
