Missing woman's fiance now a suspect in 5-year-old case

MERCER, Pa. (AP) -- The fiance of a woman who vanished five years ago and is presumed dead has been named as a suspect in the case.
Police named William Crea Jr. a suspect in the disappearance of Sandra Kay Baker -- though he hasn't been charged -- in an affidavit filed Friday for an arrest warrant for an acquaintance of Crea's who is charged with hindering the investigation.
Baker, who was 46 when she disappeared, lived in Delaware Township, Mercer County. She was last seen with Crea at a Sheetz convenience store in Transfer, on May 25, 2000, according to police.
Crea, 50, did not immediately return a message left Sunday at his Delaware Township home.
Police said Clifford Stephen Aley, a private investigator, gave authorities misleading information in June 2000. Then in June 2004, he told them he helped get rid of Baker's car and contradicted things he had told them in 2000, police said.
Police said they recently discovered that Aley had obtained "derogatory information regarding Baker's personal and financial history," and provided it to Crea. Aley initially told police he didn't investigate Baker, but later admitted he was working for Crea.
Aley, 47, of Ambridge, has a nonpublished telephone number and could not be reached. Police consider him a fugitive because he failed to surrender last week as arranged.
