ON CAMPUS Tyler O'Halloran set for Seniors National event

The Boardman High graduate will be a junior at the University of Texas.
Tyler O'Halloran will compete in the 2005 Seniors National Swimming Championships at Irvine, California Aug. 2-6.
The Boardman High graduate, who will be a junior at the University of Texas, participated in the 2004 Olympic Trials and Seniors Nationals.
O'Halloran has been practicing in the water twice a day at Texas, besides lifting weights.
Events he could compete in at the Nationals are the 50-yard freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and perhaps some relays, with 40-50 swimmers in each race.
With his season best time of 19.72 seconds in the 50 freestyle, he qualified for the 2005 NCAA Swimming championships at Minneapolis, Minn.
A communications major, O'Halloran made this year's honor roll and received a University of Texas Athletic Directors Student Athlete-Academic plaque for accumulating a 3.4 grade-point-average.
Edinboro
Junior Julie Nemergut has been named to the third team on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division Women's track and field/cross country squad.
The South Range graduate is a special education major with a 3.89 grade point average at Edinboro.
She earned All-America honors last fall at the NCAA Division II cross country national championships with a fifth place finish (21:59.7), helping Edinboro place second -- its highest women's finish.
Marshall
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Jessica Pissini has accepted an offer and will continue her track career at Marshall.
A Hickory High graduate, she holds school records in the discus (140 feet, 1 inch), outdoor shot put (39-1 1/4), indoor shot (36-10) and javelin (108-7).
A four-year letterwinner, Pissini placed second in the discus at the this year's P.I.A.A. state meet and finished seventh in the shot.
She was also a three-year letterwinner for the Hornets' golf and basketball teams and was captain of the golf and track squads during the past school year. She also threw the discus at the Nike Nationals this summer.
Pissini was a member of the Hickory High National Honor Society, French Honor Society, French Club, S.A.D.D, Physics Club (secretary), Drama Club, Varsity H Club, marching band, concert band and jazz band (vice president).
She was awarded local scholarships from The Daniel Grgurich Memorial, Dick Borowicz Memorial and Gladys and Raymond Hilkirk Foundation.
"I had these in mind when I chose Marshall, so I wasn't really worried about the money because I really liked the school," said Pissini.
"The Marshall offer is awesome. It was the first school that had a little of everything that I was looking for: engineering, a good track team and a nice school environment."
Thiel
Shawn Colonna, a Boardman High graduate, will continue his football career at Thiel.
A two-year letterman for the Spartans, the 6-foot, 205-pound guard, plans to major in physical therapy at the NCAA Divison II school.
Geneva
The name Tommellco has long been associated with Geneva College football. Tom Tommellco Sr. played for the Golden Tornadoes in the mid-1970s and was a second NAIA All-America back in 1978.
Tom Jr. joined the Golden Tornadoes in 2003 and is getting set to begin his third season.
Having a father-son legacy playing for the same college football program is certainly not rare, however, the Tommellco name will be much more prominent on this year's roster.
Andy and Aaron Tommellco will join the Golden Tornadoes this season.
Aaron is the brother of Tom, while Andy, a first cousin of his two namesake teammates, is the son of Westminster football alumni Andy Tommellco Sr.
"There is certainly a great tradition of football players in the Tommellco family," said Geneva coach Geno DeMarco. "Tom has been a great addition to our program and we are very excited about having Aaron and Andy join our program this fall."
Tom Jr. will be a sophomore eligibility-wise. He is a 5-9, 230 pound fullback, while the other two will be linebackers. Andy (6-1, 190) and Aaron (6-1, 225) are 2004 Neshannock High School graduates.
"We love to have kids in our program that are familiar with Geneva College and with what it means to play for the Golden Tornadoes," said DeMarco. "Obviously when you have a family name date back 25 years, these kids have a great idea of what we are all about at Geneva College."
The Golden Tornadoes, who went 5-5 last year, will play their season opener Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. when they play host to West Liberty State College.
