Husband imprisoned in poisoning
MEDINA, Ohio (AP) -- A man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for trying to poison his wife of 16 years by putting rat poison in her food for about six months in 2003 and 2004.
Harald Ehrenfeld, 38, could have received 40 years on his guilty plea to four counts of food contamination. He was sentenced Friday by Medina County Common Pleas Judge James Kimbler.
Cheryl Ehrenfeld, 38, said her husband prepared meals in their Sharon Township home on the Tuesday and Thursday afternoons she worked as a bookkeeper. She told the judge there were nights when she got violently ill, but her husband never got sick.
"Over time, he got better at it," she said outside court. "He could look me in the eyes and watch me eat poison."
Cheryl Ehrenfeld claimed her husband put the green flecks, which he said were herbs, in her food because he was having an affair and wanted to end their marriage. She filed for divorce last summer.
