DOCTORS
Grad to begin residency
Sarah Hutchinson has graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
A graduate of Poland Seminary High School, she received her bachelor's degree from Ohio State University, summa cum laude, in 2001. Specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Hutchinson is set to begin her residency at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. She is the daughter of the Rev. Alan and Anne Hutchinson of Poland.
New local pharmacists
Three local residents have received their doctorate of pharmacy degrees from Ohio Northern University's College of Pharmacy. They are Kellie C. Thirion, Kate E. Rickert and Jason A. Cleland.
Thirion, a daughter of William and Cynthia Thirion of Warren, was active in Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary, Kappa Epsilon pharmacy fraternity for women, Kappa Phi Christian sorority, Northern Stars dance team, Student Society of Health System Pharmacists, Phi Lambda Sigma pharmacy leadership honorary and Northern Christian Fellowship.
She is a graduate of Champion High School.
Rickert, daughter of David and Pamela Rickert of Youngstown, was active in Kappa Alpha Theta social fraternity for women. She is a Boardman High School graduate.
Cleland, son of Sandra Cleland of Cortland and William Cleland of Farmdale, was active in Phi Lambda Sigma pharmacy honorary, Mortar Board scholastic honorary, Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary and Phi Delta Chi pharmacy fraternity. He is a graduate of Lakeview High School, Cortland.
Veterinary medicine
Jennifer Harnishfeger O'Brien has earned her doctorate of veterinary medicine from the University of Tennessee's College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. O'Brien is a 1994 Boardman High School graduate. She graduated cum laude from the University of Findlay with a bachelor's degree in pre-veterinary medicine and biology. She was a member of Tau Omega Pi, an honors fraternity, serving as president for two years. She also served on the Campus Program Board for four years and was on the dean's list and the honors program all four years.
While at the University of Tennessee, she was a member of Avian, Wildlife, Exotic Club for four years serving as president for two years. She was in Student Pathology Club for one year, and a member of the student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. O'Brien also served on the National SAVMA symposium committee.
She is the daughter of Byron Harnishfeger of Boardman and Norma Caroline of Austintown. Dr. O'Brien and her husband, Patrick, live in Knoxville, Tenn.
Osteopathic medicine
Darren A. Shiley, a McDonald High School graduate, has earned his osteopathic medicine degree from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Shiley has begun his residency at St. Joseph Health Center, Warren. He received his bachelor's degree from Ohio University.
He is the son of Don and Doreen Shiley of McDonald.
