No two varieties the same
If you think all blueberries are alike, check out these:
'Little Giant': Growing about 4 feet tall, this hybrid variety can produce 16,000 tiny, flavorful berries on a single bush, says Dan Hartmann, president of Hartmann's Plant Co. in Lacota, Mich. "'Little Giant' is my favorite," he says. "I just love those berries."
'Tophat': A low-bush cultivar from Michigan State University that grows about 2 feet tall and does well in pots.
'Chippewa,' 'Polaris' and 'North Blue': These half-high cultivars have fruit the size of a dime, Hartmann says. The first two grow about 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide; 'North Blue' is a little smaller.
'Jersey': A high-bush variety that grows 6 to 8 feet tall. "You get big yields from a hardy bush," says Jenifer Leskawa, public relations coordinator for Stark Bro's Nurseries & amp; Orchards Co. in Louisiana, Mo.
'Chandler': A 6-foot high-bush variety that has very large berries over a long fruiting period of four to six weeks.
'Patriot': A 3- to 4-foot early-fruiting high-bush variety with an open habit that would be easy to work into a home garden.
