Array of activities set at fireworks festival

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The annual New Castle Fireworks Festival will take place on two days this year -- Friday and Saturday -- with fireworks displays each night.
The Friday kickoff will include a 5K run, bike night, musical entertainment and a fireworks display. Saturday's schedule includes a classic car cruise, the American Cancer Society's annual Ducky Derby and more fireworks. There also will be a children's area. Food and other business vendors will line up both days along the Columbus Innerbelt near downtown. Admission is free. Activity costs will vary.
Also, the festival will again host the New Castle Idol singing contest. This year's winner is scheduled to perform the National Anthem during New Castle Day later this summer at the Pittsburgh Pirates game at PNC Park.
