Toddler drowns after falling into pond
KALIDA, Ohio (AP) -- An 18-month-old girl walked away from her house, fell into an ornamental fish pond and died Friday, authorities said.
The Putnam County coroner hadn't determined the cause of death, but it appears the girl drowned, according to the sheriff's office.
Authorities said the toddler, whose name was not released, was playing with her sister inside their house but got outside through a sliding screen door.
The pond is about 15 feet from the house.
The girl was found in the pond by her mother about 12:40 p.m. She had no pulse and was not breathing, authorities said.
She was pronounced dead an hour later at an ambulatory care center.
Kalida is about 55 miles southwest of Toledo.
