Activities for bicentennial
BOARDMAN -- A community picnic, part of the township's bicentennial celebration, will be from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday at Boardman Township Park.
The day's activities include face painting, concessions and commemorative items.
The band Blackwater will perform from 2 to 4 p.m., and old-fashioned games such as a three-legged race and a pie-eating contest will run from 4 to 5 p.m. The Great Pretenders will perform from 5 to 7 p.m.
Michael Notar, principal of Stadium Drive Elementary School, who walked from Columbus to the park to raise money for research for a disease that affects a Stadium Drive pupil, will return about 7:30 p.m. He will present the $40,000 he raised for the Matthew Fund.
The Youngstown Symphonic Band performs from 8 to 9:30 p.m., and fireworks start at 9:45 p.m.
Attendees should bring lawn chairs. If it rains, band performances will be at Boardman Performing Arts Center, Boardman High School.
Man killed in accident
YOUNGSTOWN -- James E. Daniels, 40, of Victor Avenue died when his 1988 Ford truck struck the guy wire of a utility pole on Albert Street and flipped onto its left side around 11:20 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Daniels was partially ejected and the truck rolled on top of him.
Police said Daniels had been northbound on Albert when his vehicle went off the right side of the road just past Verona Avenue.
Reports show Daniels was not wearing a seat belt.
Reporting reckless drivers
Motorists can help Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers this July Fourth weekend by calling (877)-7-PATROL to report dangerous drivers and stranded motorists.
Troopers will increase enforcement of crash-causing violations associated with impaired driving and extreme driving.
Troopers are reminding drivers to look out for motorcycles, which can be difficult to see at times.
Block watch meeting
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Westside Nosy Neighbors Block Watch will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Brendan's School, Room 103.
Fourth Ward Councilwoman Carol Rimedio-Righetti will be in attendance.
New members are welcome.
Funds for riding program
SOUTHINGTON -- The Camelot Center Therapeutic Riding Program recently began a campaign to raise $225,000 to build a new riding facility on 74 donated acres in the township.
Camelot provides therapeutic riding opportunities for people with disabilities.
It receives no federal or state funding and depends entirely on fund raising and donations.

Tours of decorative ponds
CANFIELD -- The Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District and Colonial Gardens will hold the fifth annual Tour of Decorative Ponds for Mahoning and Trumbull counties two weekends in July.
The tour will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 16 and noon to 5 p.m. July 17 in Mahoning County.
The Trumbull County segment will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 23 and noon to 5 p.m. July 24.
Numerous homeowners will open their yards to the public to show off their decorative ponds.
The drive-it-yourself tour has $10 guidebooks available at the Mahoning SWCD office, 490 S. Broad St., Canfield, or Colonial Gardens, 1419 Youngstown-Kingsville Road, Vienna.
Tour proceeds benefit The Children of Casa Madre in Mahoning County and The Summer Enrichment Program for Handicapped Children of Trumbull County.

Recorder's office hours
LISBON -- Because of reduced funding, the Columbiana County Recorder's Office will be open from noon to 1 p.m. for research only beginning Thursday.
Regular recording services will resume at 1 p.m.
Registration for kids camp
GIRARD -- The Girard Multi-Generational Center on Trumbull Avenue will again host its educational program, Camp Fun.
Registration deadline is Tuesday and is now under way for children ages 5 to 12.
The first week's session will run from July 11 to 15 for children 5 to 8. The second session will be July 18 to 22 for ages 9 to 12.
Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The fee is $15 per child for the entire week, including supplies and snacks. Campers are asked to bring a bagged lunch.
