UW-Milwaukee to test Penguins

The Panthers have won the last nine meetings between the two teams.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team returns to action today, when the Penguins play host to Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 2 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.
The Penguins are 8-11 overall and 2-6 in the Horizon League, while Milwaukee checks in at 9-9 overall, but 6-2 in the league.
Youngstown State last played Thursday night, losing 73-65 to Illinois-Chicago. Senior Jen Perugini led the Penguins with 16 points and eight rebounds, while senior Barb Fabianova scored 11 points and freshman My'Kea Cohill had a career-best nine points.
Point guard Lauren Branson had eight assists against UIC and broke the school's freshman assist record, which was set by Dianne (Rappach) McFadden with 106 in 1988-89. Branson has 114 assists this season. Her total is the highest assists total since the 2002-03 season when Maggie Johnston had 114.
Perugini is two blocked shots shy of becoming only the second player in school history to record at least 1,000 career points, 800 career rebounds and 100 career blocks. The only other player to accomplish that feat was Margaret Somple (1986-91).
Cohill is taking advantage of her increased role. Over the last three games, the 5-9 guard has scored 24 points. In her first 13 games, Cohill scored 22 points.
Panthers on a roll
The Panthers have won their last three games, including a 74-73 overtime decision over Detroit on Thursday. Junior Nicole Drummond led five Panthers in double figures with 17 points. Aubrey Hampton posted 14 points, Megan Rogers added 13 points off the bench, and Molly O'Brien and Kimberly Becker each contributed 12 points. Becker also recorded 14 rebounds.
Drummond leads Milwaukee in scoring, averaging 13.6 points per game. Teri Huff and Becker are averaging 10.4 and 10.0 points per game, respectively.
This will be the 13th meeting between Youngstown State and UW-Milwaukee with the Panthers owning a 9-3 advantage in the all-time series. UW-Milwaukee has won the last nine contests and the Penguins have not defeated the Panthers since the 1991-92 campaign.
Youngstown State's next game is at Cleveland State on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Wolstein Center.
