Ursuline dumps Mooney in SVC



Second and fourth quarters were the difference in the Irish's 54-43 win.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jerome Jones scored 14 points, and Ursuline High held the upper hand in the second and fourth quarters of its 54-43 victory over Mooney on Friday night.
The Irish (11-3, 4-1 Steel Valley Conference) were tied 5-5 after one quarter, but outscored the Cardinals 21-17 in the second period for a 26-22 halftime lead.
After Mooney closed to 33-30 at the end of the third quarter, Ursuline outscored the Cardinals 21-13 over the final eight minutes.
D'Aundray Brown added 11 points for the Irish, while Edwin Smith and Jones had 11 rebounds apiece.
Jarron Howell scored 14 points to lead Mooney (2-13, 0-4), while Desmond Marrow had eight rebounds.
Canfield 60, Howland 48
CANFIELD -- Kyle Melewski scored 13 points to lead Canfield in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
The Cardinals (10-5, 6-3) received scoring from eight players. Kyle Schuchler and Troy Gessner had nine points each, and Mike Runsavall scored eight.
Jared Bartholomew scored 14 points to lead Howland (4-11, 1-8), and Ryan Johnson finished with 13.
Alliance 49, Salem 46, OT
ALLIANCE -- Breyonn Edwards and Bylynn Hatcher scored 13 points apiece for Alliance, which outscored Salem 5-2 in overtime.
Hatcher and Daron Taylor had six rebounds each for the Aviators (10-4, 6-2 MAC).
Salem (6-8, 4-5) was led by Tommy Jesko's 15 points and five rebounds. Jarin Heath had 10 points and Adam Hickey added five rebounds.
Chaney 67, Timken 57
CANTON -- Chaney got off to a quick start, leading 16-9 after one quarter.
Evan Busch scored 19 points to lead the Cowboys (3-11, 3-3 City Series). Jeremy Tomlin added 14 points and Kory Jackson 12.
Timken is 4-11, 3-2.
Campbell 67, Niles 65
NILES -- Terrance Phillips scored 17 points and Louie Samonas added 16 for Campbell.
The Red Devils (10-4) trailed 31-23 at halftime.
Justin Allen scored 18 points to lead Niles (8-7). Bill Frech added 17 points and Andrew Cleary scored 16.
Louisville 49, West Branch 47
BELOIT -- Jared Hoffman scored 17 points and had eight rebounds for West Branch, which lost on an offensive rebound with 1.3 seconds remaining.
Brandon McMillen added 10 points, while Mike Fugate had six assists for the Warriors (5-10, 4-7 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
Louisville (12-4, 9-3) was led by Luke Conley's 21 points and Dan Boudler's 10.
Shenango 80, Mohawk 56
NEW CASTLE -- Steve McNees, a 6-foot-2 junior point guard, had a triple double for Shenango with 30 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds.
Kyle Monceaux added 14 points for the Wildcats (16-4), while Shawn DeJohn scored 13 and Ryan Grafton had 11.
Mohawk (11-8) was led by Gary Pezzoulo with 16 points, Jeremy Gebhart with 14 and Richard Colick with 12.
