Companies embrace married couples who renew vows

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
A current television commercial for a diamond ring centers on an American couple standing in what seems to be an Italian square. He tells us he wants to marry her again as he presents her with the ring.
The spot may be selling diamonds but behind it is a growing trend: the renewal of wedding vows.
It's an idea the travel industry has apparently embraced. A Google check yields an array of romantic vow renewal packages.
Hallmark created a selection of appropriate cards in response to the trend. The company's trend expert, Marita Wesely-Clough, says in a report that traditions and rituals have more value in today's world: "Rites of passage that mark shifts from one place to another have become more important." Renewals are a way to stay grounded.
