ZONING Mahoning panel sets changes

The commission also approved two housing developments.
AUSTINTOWN -- The Mahoning County Planning Commission approved changing the zoning of eight lots near Cornersburg to accommodate construction of a Walgreens Drug Store.
The store will be built along Meridian Road on the site previously occupied by a Belleria Pizza shop in Austintown.
At its recent meeting, the commission also agreed to change the zoning for a parcel of land at North Lima Road and East Western Reserve Road in Poland Township from Estate to a Town Center zoning. Estate zoning requires residential-only building lots of at least two acres. Town Center zoning allows for small commercial operations, such as gift shops and convenience stores selling gas. The land is owned by Quadland Corp., Accreative Properties LLC and Paul Stebelton, all from Hubbard, who had requested the change.
The commission also gave tentative approval to preliminary plans for a nine-lot residential development along the east side of Struthers Road, just south of Stacy Drive, in Springfield Township. The plans had been submitted by EJJY Corporation of Hubbard.
Raising concerns
A Springfield Township representative at the planning commission meeting raised two concerns with the plans: the difficulty in maintaining roads with islands in them, as called for in the plans; and not wanting to be responsible for maintaining the sidewalks also called for in the plans. The commission's approval was based on the developer and township coming to a mutual agreement on these issues.
The commission also approved plans by D & amp;Z Development LTD of Poland for a 21-lot residential development, which would be built near the intersection of Western Reserve and Sharrott roads in Beaver Township.
