YOUNGSTOWN -- A cautionary tale about leaving your car unlocked and running: A Warren man started his 2000 Cadillac Seville to let it warm up, and someone stole it, police reported. The victim said he had walked a couple of doors down to talk to his girlfriend and saw a man enter the car and drive west toward Belmont Avenue around 10:40 p.m. The friend, who lives on Bradley, told police one of two men going door to door with snow shovels took the car. The second shoveler ran away.
Pair grabs suspect
YOUNGSTOWN -- A father and son on Helena Avenue had a grip on Lechon Miliner, 17, of Gordon Avenue, Campbell, when police responded at 2 a.m. Sunday to a car theft call. The father said he and his son arrived home to find two persons in the 1991 Chevrolet Lumina in the driveway. Both ran away. The son caught Miliner near Midlothian Boulevard and escorted him back to the driveway to wait for police. Officers found the driver's side window on the Lumina smashed and severe damage to the dash. The stereo was on the front passenger seat. The car, in neutral, had rolled into the victim's 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, damaging its passenger door. Police found a large screwdriver in the driveway. Thieves often use screwdrivers to dismantle steering columns to start engines of older model cars. Police took Miliner to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center to face a charge of attempted auto theft. Police still are seeking the second suspect.
Cocaine tossed?
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested two men after the crash of a stolen Cadillac and a foot chase through 8 inches of snow on Seneca Avenue at 12:30 a.m. Sunday. They arrested Andrew M. Prestley, 31, of Norwood Avenue on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of crack cocaine and receiving stolen property. They took Jamar M. Jackson, 16, of South Avenue to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center to face a charge of receiving stolen property. Police said Prestley dropped 10 rocks of suspected crack from his hand when they caught him and that he had a loaded gun in his jacket pocket.
Suspect uncovered
YOUNGSTOWN -- Acting on a tip Saturday night, police searched a house on North Whitney Avenue and found Jovan Labooth, wanted on warrants, hiding. Officers said they saw Labooth, 22, of Pasadena Avenue peek out a window then duck out of sight. A woman opened the door and allowed police inside. They found Labooth under two mattresses. The warrants allege failure to comply with court orders in cases involving assault and obstructing official business.
