YOUNGSTOWN -- Michael Hardesty will be featured at 2 p.m. Thursday at The Butler Institute of American Art's Wegman Beecher Center Auditorium.
Hardesty's current exhibition at the Butler is a suite of three installations titled "Over."
Other Hardesty's installations shown at the Butler Institute include Polar Event (1990), Signal (1992) and Candle Blower (2000). A comprehensive, fully illustrated catalogue of Hardesty's artworks accompanies the current Butler exhibition. His installation work is noted for its use of video, atmospheric invention, creative audio and exquisitely crafted sculptural elements.
Chinese New Yearcelebration at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN -- Doors open at 4 p.m. for the annual Chinese New Year celebration on Sunday, Jan. 30 on the campus of Youngstown State University in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.
Tickets are on sale now for the event, titled & quot;Lunar Year of the Rooster. & quot; Event organizers recommend that tickets be purchased by Friday, Jan. 21.
The dinner begins at 5 p.m. After dinner, there will be performances by Misook Yun, YSU associate professor in the Dana School of Music, and by Three Sister Acrobatics. The Lion Dance will also be performed. In addition, a traditional Chinese costume show will be part of the event.
Tickets are $15 for members of the Chinese Association of the Greater Youngstown Area, the event sponsor. Tickets for nonmembers are $18. For college students and 11 through 17-year olds, tickets are $12; for six through 10-year olds, $9, and five and under, $3.

Youth art show
YOUNGSTOWN -- Winners of the 2005 Regional Scholastic Art Awards will be on show through Feb. 11 at the McDonough Museum of Art.
The awards program is part of the national exhibit and scholarship competition. Regional winners will receive their awards at a private ceremony and have their names released to the public Feb. 6.
Gold key winners, best of show and gold key portfolio nominees will have their regional works sent to New York to compete in the national contest.
The museum is on the campus of Youngstown State University. It is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.
CD release party
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jamie Marich's CD "Under My Roof" will be available at a performance and CD release party at 8 p.m. Friday at Dubic's Palm Cafe, 301 Stee. St.
The CD, featuring alternative country and folk music, features Marich and her musical partner, Jim Stafford.
Summer internships
PITTSBURGH -- Even though the area is being blanketed by snow this weekend, the folks at the Pittsburgh Civic Light Orchestra are thinking about summer.
The internship program runs 10-12 weeks beginning in late May to early June. Students age 17 or older can work one-on-one with music theater pros.

TV highlights
"Real World/ Road Rules Challenge of the Sexes" (10 p.m. Monday, MTV). The season finale crowns a winner among the A-types running around this season.
"AutoRox" (9 p.m. Tuesday, Spike TV). This awards show honors the best in automobiles, with categories marking Car of the Year and Best Mid-Life Crisis Car for 2005.
"Newlyweds" (10:30 p.m. Wednesday MTV). In the first season, Jessica Simpson pondered if Chicken of the Sea was chicken or tuna. In this third season, she wonders if choosy mothers really choose Jiff.
