Citizens police class starts in Feb.

BUTLER, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police in Butler are now accepting applications from Butler, Armstrong and Mercer county residents for its 2005 Citizens Police Academy.
Class will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on 12 consecutive Wednesdays beginning Feb. 23.
Topics will include the history and structure of state police, collision investigation and reconstruction, use of drug dogs, the Special Emergency Response Team, polygraphs, the role of the trooper, use of force, the court system, criminal investigations, forensics, the state police helicopter, vice operations and liquor control enforcement.
Twenty adults will be selected. Applicants must have no criminal record, and cannot have attended a previous academy.
Registration must be made in person at the Butler Pennsylvania State Police Barracks or by contacting the Community Services Office at the Butler Barracks. Questions should be addressed to Troopers Jonathan Bayer and Leah Conners at (724) 284-1134, Ext. 249.
Completed registration forms must be returned no later than Feb. 9.
The academy is offered to promote a better understanding of how the state police operate, and to inform citizens of the different aspects of police work.
