ELKTON Northeast Ohio imam freed from area lockup

ELKTON (AP) -- The leader of Ohio's largest mosque finished a two-month prison term for lying about connections to terrorist groups and was released on Thursday from a low-security federal prison.
Imam Fawaz Damra, 43, of Strongsville in suburban Cleveland, was released about 8:30 a.m. from the Federal Correctional Institution in Elkton, the warden's office said. He still must serve four months of house arrest.
The Palestinian-born Damra was convicted in June of concealing ties to Afghan Refugee Services, the Islamic Committee for Palestine and Palestinian Islamic Jihad when he applied for U.S. citizenship in 1994. The U.S. government classifies the groups as terrorist organizations.
Damra, who faces possible deportation, leads the Islamic Center of Cleveland.
