Police: Jewelry at crash connects driver to break-ins

GOSHEN -- Evidence against a suspect in a string of break-ins on Western Reserve Road will be presented to a grand jury next week, Goshen Police Chief Jim Willock said.
The chief said the suspect, driving a black Chevrolet F-10 Blazer, caught the attention of a man checking gas wells off Middletown Road on Wednesday.
The suspect drove off, leaving jewelry boxes behind on the wet ground. The boxes were dry. The concerned citizen took the items to police.
The F-10 Blazer, with two Mahoning County deputy sheriffs behind it, drove east in the westbound lane of Interstate 76 and crashed. The suspect ran, with deputies and troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol in pursuit. More jewelry was left at the crash scene.
The man escaped, but evidence gathered since then leads police to believe he is responsible for two break-ins and an attempted break-in on Western Reserve Road, Willock said.
The chief said the man may also be responsible for two break-ins in Berlin Center.
