Big expansion plan includes new jobs

HUBBARD -- Warren Fabricating and Machining Corp. is planning a big expansion of its Chestnut Ridge Road operation that could create 100 jobs, officials said.
The expansion would include a $10 million building and nearly $120 million in new equipment. Warren Fabricating operates facilities in Hubbard, Niles and Warren, where it fabricates and machines steel for heavy industry.
The company recently applied for a 100 percent tax incentive over 15 years, Mark Zigmont of the Trumbull County Planning Commission said in a published report.
To get the incentives, 100 jobs would have to be created within three years.
Hubbard Township Trustee Joseph Gleydura said there is no discussion yet on the proposal, but he expects it will be discussed by trustees next month.
Zigmont said there are also discussions to make the planned site of the operation into a foreign trade zone, which would waive taxes on the imported steel it plans to use. Most of the land around the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport is already part of a trade zone.
After years of slow or no growth, steelmaking and fabricating have had a sudden burst, spurred by economic recovery here and in Asia.
