Authorities net pot plants in raids



No arrests have been made in the raids in Mahoning, Trumbull and Mercer counties.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Federal agents and officers from several state and local police departments raided three locations Wednesday stemming from an investigation that began in September.
The searches in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, as well as Mercer County, Pa., netted nearly 1,000 marijuana plants, growing equipment and what were described as pertinent records.
No arrests were made.
"We are continuing this investigation, and there will be arrests," said Doug Lamplugh, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent in charge in Youngstown. "There are going to be future interviews and grand jury appearances in connection with it."
The DEA Youngstown Task Force executed federal search warrants in conducting the raids.
Locations
One warrant was executed at 13462 Pricetown Road in Goshen Township, where 267 marijuana plants, growing lights, irrigation equipment and fertilizer were confiscated.
The Boardman Police Department, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & amp; Investigation, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Goshen police and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms participated.
Another warrant was served at 957 Fairway Drive in Warren, where Warren police and BCI officers recovered documents and records relative to the investigation, Lamplugh said.
The third warrant was executed at 1745 Stateline Road in West Middlesex, Pa. Officers seized more than 650 plants from several outbuildings in an operation Lamplugh described as "extensive and complex [and] utilizing hydroponic grow techniques."
Additional records were also taken at the Pennsylvania location.
Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro said as a result of the raids "a significant amount of illegal drugs has been kept off the streets."
The DEA Youngstown Task Force comprises law enforcement personnel from the DEA, Ohio BCI and the Salem, Boardman, Poland village, Warren, Beaver, Canfield and Youngstown police departments.
The probe began with a citizen's tip to the OSHP.
