WOMEN'S BASKETBALL YSU stops Milwaukee in season finale, 75-68

The Penguins will take a three-game win streak into the tournament next week.
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Youngstown State women's basketball coach Tisha Hill wanted her team to have some momentum going into the Horizon League tournament next week, but even she couldn't have dreamed up a better scenario than the Penguins provided.
Saturday afternoon the Penguins rolled to a 75-68 victory over UW-Milwaukee, giving the Penguins a three-game winning streak heading into next week's tournament.
YSU (12-15, 6-10 Horizon) locked up the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will face No. 3 seed Wright State in Dayton Thursday night.
Big week for Penguins
It's been an outstanding week of basketball for the Penguins, who last Saturday knocked off No. 1 seed UW-Green Bay in Green Bay, came back home Thursday and rolled over Detroit and Saturday knocked off No. 2 seed UW-Milwaukee.
Once again it was the play of the Penguins' three outstanding seniors -- Barb Fabianova, Jen Perugini and Cathy Hanek -- who led the way.
Fabianova was top scorer with 20 points, including 6-of-9 shooting from 3-point range, while Perugini recorded her 13th double-double of the season and 32nd of her career with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Hanek added 12 points.
"Our key today was our defensive pressure," said Hill. "We came out strong in the first half and we were able to knock down the shots in transition.
"Both teams fought hard and we had to play a full 20 minutes in the second half to pull out the win," she added.
First sweep of Panthers
The victory gave the Penguins their first-ever sweep of the Panthers since joining the Horizon League and their first win in Milwaukee since 1991.
While the Penguins led the contest for all but about two minutes, the Panthers never let them get too far ahead.
YSU led by as much as five points in the first half, but the Panthers came back to take their only lead of the contest, 27-26, with 4:20 remaining, before the Penguins regained the lead for good on Michelle Holmes' jump shot with 2:14 to go in the half. YSU led 34-27 at the intermission.
The Penguins managed to hold onto the lead throughout the second half, but the Panthers closed to within one point, 56-55, with 6:06 remaining.
Perugini, who had 13 of her 17 points in the second half, scored a pair of buckets to put the Penguins back in command and down the stretch the Penguins went 6-of-8 at the foul line to wrap up the win.
