SALVATION ARMY Group raising funds for trip



Some Salvationist fund-raising events are ongoing.
MERCER, Pa. -- Youths from the Mercer Salvation Army Worship Center, 33 S. Erie St., will hold a series of fund-raising events over the next few months to pay for their expenses to Mission Alive '05: The Family Enrichment Conference of the USA Eastern Territory of The Salvation Army June 9-12 in Hershey, Pa.
The conference will feature the ordination and commissioning of Salvation Army officers, youth and family activities, concerts by Jars of Clay, Salvador and Mending Point, a Territorial Bible Bowl, a Family Fest Parade, and a Salvationist Star Search. Attendees will include Salvationists from throughout the world.
The first of the local fund-raisers, a 10-hour lock-in at the local worship center, was held from 8 a.m. to 8 a.m. Jan. 14-15. The youth received sponsorships from family and friends based on the number of hours they stayed up.
Other fund-raisers
UA purse auction starting at 10 a.m. March 12. Refreshments will be sold.
UA chili dinner from 4-7 p.m. April 16. The menu will also feature crackers, cornbread, beverages and dessert.
UA rummage sale in May. More details will be announced later.
USeveral car washes. The dates and times will be announced later.
UAn ongoing aluminum can drive. Those wishing to contribute cans may bring them to the worship center, or call and make arrangements to have them picked up. Businesses and organizations can collect cans to donate to the worship center on a year round basis, or for a limited amount of time.
UA penny drive. The worship center will accept pennies, loose change, or if you want, you may write a check of any amount to The Salvation Army, and mark the memo "Hershey Conference."
Businesses interested in having a collection can for the penny drive on their premises are encouraged to call the worship center. The collection cans may be kept for whatever length of time that a business decides.
