Maplewood stays alive in Div. IV tourney



WARREN -- Jake Abbott scored 19 points -- including 15 of his team's 25 in the fourth quarter -- to lead Maplewood High to a 55-47 victory over Ashtabula Sts. John & amp; Paul Saturday in a Division IV boys sectional basketball tournament game at Warren Harding Fieldhouse.
Richie Plott added 10 points for the Rockets (15-6), who advanced to a district semifinal Tuesday against Kirtland.
Maplewood, the tournament's fourth seed, led only 30-28 after three quarters, but outscored the Heralds 25-19in the final period. The Rockets were 23-for-28 at the foul line, including a 9-for-11 performance by Abbott.
Ashtabula SJP was led by Gino Fasano, with 16 points.
Kirtland 59, Lordstown 38
Kirtland, the tournament's third seed, jumped out to a 20-6 lead after one quarter.
Ben Tetlow scored 17 points for Kirtland, while Mitch Seaborn added 14 and Mike Eastman scored 12.
Lordstown (6-16) was led by Brandon Wickline, who finished with 11 points. Julian Krusely added eight and Jake DiEugenio scored seven.
