King places 11th in 200 freestyle

CANTON -- Warren Harding senior Tyler King placed 11th in the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 43.94 seconds on Friday in the first day of this weekend's state swimming meet at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Boardman freshman Conner O'Halloran finished 16th in the 50 freestyle in 22.24.
Chad Henson, Chad DeAngelo, Brian Worhatch and Mike Barringer of the Spartans placed 22nd in the 200 medley relay in 1:42.21.
Freshman Sam Bluhm of West Branch High placed 14th in the Division II girls 200 freestyle in 1:58.77.
The Warriors were 47th in the Div. II standings with three points. Gates Mills Hawken was first with 179 and Cincinnati Indian Hill second with 116.
The state meet continues today, with preliminaries beginning at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
King will compete in the 100 backstroke, with Boardman's Hayley Robinson entered in the girls' 100 breaststroke and the Spartan boys in 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
The Spartans were tied for 55th in the boys standings with 55 points. Columbus Upper Arlington was in first place with 130.50 points.
Upper Arlington's Phil Geiger, Nate Cass, Dan Wendorff and Chris Yunker won the 200 medley relay in 1:33.30.
Case took first in the 200 individual medley in 1:48.22.
Hank Browning and Kyle Greene of Cincinnati Turpin swam one-two in the 200 freestyle in 1:38.53 and 1:41.27 respectively.
Casey Heinbaugh of Centerville won the 50 freestyle in 20.95 seconds and Yunker of Upper Arlington was second 21.20.
Upper Arlington also leads the Div. I girls competition with 147 points, Cincinnati Ursuline Academy was second with 126 and Canfield was tied for 34th with seven.
Cincinnati Ursuline Academy's Sarah Tanner, Amanda Rom, Katie Brotherton and Abby Cooper won the 200 medley relay in 1:48.39.
Carly Mathes of Fairmont took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.21, Jennifer Forster of Centerville was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:00.43 and Abby Cooper of Ursuline took the 50 freestyle in 23.96.
