Iowa ends 3-game skid, 78-56

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Adam Haluska led a strong shooting performance with 22 points as Iowa routed Penn State 78-56 on Saturday.
The Hawkeyes (17-10, 5-9 Big Ten) could do no wrong as they snapped a three-game losing streak, shooting 32-of-61 for the game. Iowa also got 19 points from Jeff Horner and 14 from Greg Brunner.
It was just the opposite for the Nittany Lions (7-20, 1-13), who dropped their ninth straight contest and have now lost 14 of their last 15. Geary Claxton led the Lions with 15 points and Aaron Johnson chipped in 11.
Iowa made the most of its advantage in speed from beginning to end, forcing 16 turnovers on defense and beating the Lions down the court for easy transition baskets.
Jason McDougald got things off on the right foot for Penn State, scoring an emphatic dunk off a feed from Claxton in the first minute, but that was as good as things got for the Lions.
Horner's jumper with seven minutes remaining in the first half gave Iowa a 31-11 lead and signaled the rout. The Hawkeyes took advantage of numerous Penn State miscues and shot 20-of-31 from the floor to build a 47-20 halftime lead.
Minnesota 59, Purdue 57
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Minnesota's Vincent Grier scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half and Aaron Robinson added 14 points to rally Minnesota from a 15-point deficit and ruin Gene Keady's home finale at Purdue.
The Gophers (19-9, 9-6) survived despite J'son Stamper missing two free throws with 5.9 seconds left. Minnesota has won three straight.
Purdue's Gary Ware rebounded Stamper's second miss, and Brandon McKnight drove in for a 12-footer that would have forced overtime. But the shot bounced off the back of the rim. McKnight finished with 18 points, while David Teague added 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Boilermakers (7-18, 3-11) lost their third in a row after playing the last 33 minutes without Carl Landry, the Big Ten's leading scorer. Landry injured his right knee early and finally limped back to the bench with 7:26 remaining.
