'Exemplary' audit result
ROOTSTOWN -- The Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine has received a perfect score on its recent enrollment audit, becoming the first higher-education institution in the state to achieve such a rating.
The audit, conducted every four years by the Ohio Board of Regents, involves a review of student data, admissions, registration, financial aid and enrollment records.
The board reviewed 772 items and found no errors in compliance.
The results of the audit were "exemplary," wrote Roderick G.W. Chu, Ohio Board of Regents chancellor, in his summary letter.
Association appointments
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State School Boards Association has given committee appointments to additional area school board members.
Martha Zarlenga, of the Canfield school board, was appointed to the Federal Relations Network, which is involved in lobbying for the National Association of School Boards.
Marie D. Dockry, also a board member for Educational Service Center and Career and Technical Center, will join Brooks on the Northeast Region Executive Committee.
Appointments for Joyce Brooks, a member of Mahoning County Educational Service Center and the Career and the Mahoning County Technical Center board, had already been announced.
Sorority offers aid
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Panhellenic Association is offering a $1,500 scholarship for the 2005-06 academic year.
Female applicants must be an undergraduate, active member of a National Panhellenic Conference Sorority and must be a full/part-time sophomore, junior, or nongraduating senior whose Ohio residence is in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties.
The award is based on scholarship, financial need, leadership, and sorority participation.

Essay contest under way
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Fair Schools Campaign has announced guidelines for the 2005 School Funding Essay Contest.
The purpose of this contest is to provide a way for pupils' voices to be heard in the debate about school funding in Ohio. The contest is open to Ohio public school pupils in grades 7-12.
This is the fourth year that the group has organized the contest. Authors of the selected essays will receive $150 cash scholarship and the opportunity to read their essay at a public statewide event. Deadline for submission is April 5.

ACT workshop set
SALEM -- Kent State University Salem Campus will offer an ACT preparation workshop to assist students in taking the American College Test. The course will cover the specific types of questions often found on the ACT.
The two workshops are March 19 and April 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fee is $75, including textbook. Registration deadline is March 1.

Open enrollment set
HOWLAND -- The township schools will be accepting applications March 14-18 for open enrollment for the 2005-06 school year. Hours to apply are 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. Applications may be picked up by parent or guardian at the superintendent's office, 8200 South St. S.E. Some grade levels are closed for the school year.
No applications will be accepted for kindergarten and grades six, eight, 10 and 11.
