Community center offers lifeguard course

SALEM -- The Salem Community Center will be offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course.
There will be two sessions.
Session 1 will run from 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, March 28 through April 7.
Session 2 will run Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m., April 22 through May 1.
Those who successfully complete the course will receive lifeguard certification.
Prerequisites are:
UMust be 15 years old.
UMust be able to swim 500 yards (200-yard front crawl, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard front crawl or breaststroke).
UMust be able to swim 20 yards and retrieve a 10-pound weight from the bottom of the deep end of the pool.
The cost for the program is $150 for community center members and $160 for nonmembers.
The registration deadline for Session 1 is March 18. The registration deadline for Session 2 is April 11. Registration can be done at the front desk of the community center.
