Birders plan workshop at McKeever center



SANDY LAKE, Pa. -- McKeever Environmental Learning Center will present its 13th annual Bluebird-Purple Martin Workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the center, 55 McKeever Lane. The event is free and open to the public.
Anthony Piccolin, who was responsible for the most recent bird survey at Maurice K. Goddard State Park, will be the presenter on bluebirds. He has lectured on bluebirds, basic birding and attracting and monitoring bluebirds.
Patrick Kramer, education coordinator and research assistant at the Purple Martin Conservation Association, will facilitate the program on purple martins. His presentation deals with the life cycle of the martin, tips for attracting them, how to manage a colony site and dealing with common problems.
Kramer conducts the PMCA's summer field work and works on a wide variety of biological research projects throughout the year.
