40th anniversary
NORTH LIMA -- Calvary United Methodist Church, 12062 South Ave. Ext., will celebrate its 40th anniversary Sunday at its 10:30 a.m. worship service and at a potluck dinner at the church, which will be followed by special services at 7 p.m. The church, which was established in 1844, will feature guest speaker Bishop John Hopkins, the new bishop of the East Ohio Conference, at the 7 p.m. service. Pastor Peter Kerlin will preside over the morning service.
New evening format
YOUNGSTOWN -- Spanish Evangelical Church, 1408 Rigby St., is changing its weekly evening service format. Starting Tuesday, both the Tuesday and Thursday evening services will be canceled. The church will switch to a midweek service format at 7 p.m. Wednesday evenings beginning March 2. The Sunday service schedule remains unchanged. The Rev. Rolando Rojas is pastor.
Singers to perform
WARREN -- "Everlasting Hope," a local gospel singing group, will be give a concert Sunday at the First Church of God, 1951 Parkman Road N.W., during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. "Everlasting Hope" was established 12 years ago by two sets of sisters, Megan Kelly and Becky Woodward and Amanda Kuszmaul and Abby Rowan. Their singing is a part of their ministry, and they have performed at churches and conventions as well as Major League Baseball and professional basketball games. Their singing style is an interesting fusion of Southern gospel and contemporary Christian music. The women recorded their first traditional self-titled album in June 2004 and later, in August 2004, a Christmas album titled "Go Tell." The public is invited. Rudjak named to post
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Joseph Rudjak, pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Youngstown, has been appointed by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin to an additional assignment as administrator of Our Lady of Hungary Parish in Youngstown. Father Rudjak was ordained May 27, 2000, after completing seminary studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati. Before ordination, he served the Diocese of Youngstown as a deacon in a variety of ministries for more than 30 years. He has also served as associate pastor of St. Paul Parish in North Canton and as chaplain at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. The appointment was effective Feb. 1.
Service of healing
YOUNGSTOWN -- A service of healing, including Communion, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. A part of the healing service will invite members of the congregation to take in the laying-on-of-hands on the head with a suitable prayer. Women to meet
YOUNGSTOWN -- The United Methodist Women of Richard Brown United Methodist, 1205 Elm St., will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday. The executive committee will convene at 12:15 p.m. After the general meeting, the program will be presented by Jo Holt. Those attending should bring a brown-bag lunch. Desert will be provided.
Friar to speak
BOARDMAN -- St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive at U.S. Route 22, will hold a Lenten mission on three consecutive evenings March 13-15 from 7 to 8 p.m. The mission will feature Friar Johnpaul Cafiero, OFM, a Franciscan priest of the Sacred Heart Province of Chicago and St. Louis. The presentations are titled "Reflections from the foot of the cross," focusing on the messages heard by several witnesses to Jesus' death on the cross. Father Cafiero is a former police officer, counselor and chaplain with the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago. Easterfest planned
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Mary, Mother of Hope Parish presents Easterfest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 19 in the Parish Center at the corner of North and Beaver streets. The event features Palm crosses, Easter crafts and gifts, butter lambs, Easter bake sale, country store, homemade candy and fancy cookies.
