STATE WRESTLING Jameson, Gigilotto win opening matches



Fitch has three wrestlers advancing to today's action in Columbus.
COLUMBUS -- Freshman Tony Jameson and senior Anthony Gigiliotto of Fitch both won opening round matches in Division I Thursday at the state wrestling tournament at the Schottenstein Center.
Twelve other area athletes won their first round matches, 12 more lost, but remained alive in the consolation round, and three were eliminated.
Jameson (35-3) defeated Nick Devol of Grove City by a technical fall (16-0) at 103 pounds, helping the Falcons tied for 16th in the standings with 6.5 points.
Gigiliotti (34-4) advanced with a 6-5 overtime victory over Dan Mizener of Mason at 145.
Nick Bodnar (33-5) of Fitch lost his first-round match at 135, then decisioned Don Carraher of Cincinnati St. Xavier 8-3 in the consolations. R.J. Donadee (32-9) lost two matches.
Three Boardman wrestlers lost in the first round and then won in consolation -- Adam Chizmar at 119, Jon Green at 130 and Justin Powell at 215.
Division II
Andy Lamancusa, West Branch High's junior wrestler, remained unbeaten (37-0) with an 11-5 win over Kevin Canini of Dublin Jerome at 140.
Teammate Nathan Sharp (275), pinned Matt Ellinger of Columbus Bexley in 4 minutes, 34 seconds. Eric Morrow lost his opening match but came back with a win in consolations.
Howland advanced three athletes to the second round -- Steve Wall at 112, Kyle Gantz at 215 and Rob Holbert at 275.
Poland's Max Pearce (125), Beaver Local's Derik Caudill (119), Anthony Duffield of East Liverpool (112), Joe Knopick of Southeast (189) and Alliance's Matt Walker all won first-round matches.
Shawn Dunn of Beaver Local (140) and Brandon Rydarowicz (275) of Hubbard lost in the first round, but won their consolation matches, while Kyle Reeder was eliminated at 171.
Division III
Three Jackson-Milton wrestlers -- Nick Dierkes (145), Mike Wiseman (152) and Adam Keck (171) won their first-round matches.
John Rozum (160) lost his opening bout but bounced back in consolations, while Mark Gibbs (135) was eliminated.
Brookfield's four wrestlers all lost their opening round matches, but won in consolations -- Tristan Thompson (112), Brad Harnett (130), Dave Dillon (140) and Ross Tice (145).
