SCHOOLS Warren receives bids for building demolitions

WARREN -- The city schools have received bids from nine companies for tearing down the closed Dickey, McKinley and Roosevelt buildings.
The base bid amounts range from $238,190 to $630,000. Bid alternatives for salvage operations at the three closed elementary schools would add several thousand dollars to the base bids, a review of the bid sheets shows.
Dickey has been closed for a few years. Roosevelt and McKinley closed at the end of the 2002-03 and the 2003-04 school years, respectively.
The school district and Ohio Schools Facilities Commission will build four new kindergarten-through-eighth-grade buildings and a new high school. Schools that remain in use won't be demolished until the new school to replace it is complete.
The state commission is paying 81 percent of the district's construction project.
The project architect is Olsavsky-Jaminet Architects, Youngstown. The construction manager is Carbone-Ozanne-Hammond Management Team of Canton.
All parties will review the bids received Thursday and select the best.
The bidders and their base bids are:

*Rudzik Excavating, $417,000.
