AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- Apparently, Cher is not a fan of the younger generation of pop stars, reports the New York Post. During a concert here last weekend, she told 20,000 fans: "I'm not going to give up show business, but I'm going to give up touring because, you know, there are all of these young girls coming out like Britney Spears and J.Lo." The crowd booed at the names and, according to New Zealand wire reports, Cher smirked: "I know -- they are ho's, aren't they?" A rep for Spears and Lopez told the Post's Page Six: "For someone who has had their fair share of bad press, it is surprising she would comment on two women she hardly knows."
Benet album includesmusical apology to Berry
LOS ANGELES -- Eric Benet is singing an apology to ex-wife Halle Berry. Benet said lyrics in his upcoming album include an apology -- but she's heard it all before. "I think somewhere along the way, she's heard everything," he told "Access Hollywood" in an interview broadcast Tuesday. "Maybe she hasn't heard the songs, but she's heard everything I have to say." Berry filed for divorce from the R & amp;B singer last April after about three years of marriage. Tabloids speculated about Benet's faithfulness. "Some of it is truth," but the reports also were full of misconceptions, Benet, 34, told the syndicated entertainment TV show. "I think the biggest misconception is that there is something wrong with me," he said. "It's like the whole picture that was painted was ...'sex addict.'" Benet also denied being a sex addict last year. In a July interview with ABC's "Primetime Thursday," he denied he had ever committed adultery but acknowledged indiscretions that entailed "verbally inappropriate" behavior and "physical contact that was extremely inappropriate and wrong in a marriage."
Clarkson set for solo tour
NEW YORK -- Kelly Clarkson is hitting the road on her first solo headline tour. Clarkson, winner of the first "American Idol" competition, will open "The Breakaway Tour" March 30 in Tulsa, Okla. The tour will end in Vancouver, British Columbia, May 29. "Nothing makes me happier than being on the road," the 22-year-old singer said in a statement Tuesday. "I can't wait to see the fans and perform my new material." Clarkson will perform in mostly theater-size venues, which she says "will be a great opportunity for me to connect with my die-hard fans in an intimate setting." Other stops on the 34-city tour include New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Her second album, "Breakaway," features two singles: the title track and "Since U Been Gone."

PITTSBURGH -- Canadian actor Heath Lamberts, best known for his performances in the stage version of "Beauty and the Beast" and his work at the Shaw Festival, died of liver failure Tuesday. He was 63. Lamberts was part of the original cast of "Beauty and the Beast" and also won accolades for his performance as Cyrano de Bergerac. He was awarded the Order of Canada for his acting. He traveled to the United States in 1994 to perform as Cogsworth in "Beauty and the Beast." Many Americans would recognize Lamberts' face from the thousands of posters for the musical. Lamberts moved to Pittsburgh in 1998 to be with his longtime girlfriend, Louise Silk, and to be treated for cancer, she said. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1999 and late last year was diagnosed with throat cancer, Silk said.

Campbell tells Diane Sawyer on ABC's "Primetime Live" (to air at 10 tonight) that she's glad she recovered, but acknowledges that it's still difficult. "It was a rebellion in a certain way. You know?" the British supermodel says. "I don't want to be in that pain again. I don't want to be in that place." Campbell, 34, says she first tried cocaine when she was 24 but stopped before "something would have happened. Some self-destructive thing." "I never did drugs before I would go on the runway because I knew that's when I was an active addict. I knew that they could see my eyes," she says. Campbell says she assumes others knew of her addiction at the time. "People aren't stupid. ... you think people don't know, but they know. They know. I mean, that's your mind playing tricks on you." In 2004, Campbell won her appeal in a privacy case against a London newspaper that published photographs of her leaving a drug counseling meeting in 2001. Her lawyer said Campbell hadn't objected to the Daily Mirror's reporting that she had a drug problem and had misled the media about it, but only to its publication of details of her treatment. In the "Primetime Live" interview, Campbell also discusses some of the more glamorous aspects of her life, including a reported romance with R & amp;B singer Usher -- though she says the two were never a couple. "We're still friends," Campbell says. "We were never boyfriend/girlfriend. ... One of the reasons why I felt like I needed to pull back is because it was getting misconstrued."
