BOYS TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP Lakeview wins opener, No. 1 Edgewood is next



The Bulldogs easily rolled past University School 81-52 in Division II.
MADISON -- After defeating University School 81-52 in a Division II first round sectional basketball tournament game, Lakeview High will take on top-seeded Ashtabula Edgewood Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Madison High School.
The Bulldogs (18-3) took control of the contest in the first half as they built a 26-14 lead, then held off University School as it tried to come back in the second half.
Alex Koltsov led the Bulldogs with 16 points and five assists. Dustin Opalka added 15 and Ed Mackiewicz connected for 10 and he grabbed nine of the team's 34 rebounds.
Shaka Kinney took scoring honors for University School (9-11) with 28 points. Paul Rich had 12.
Warren JFK 71, Py Valley 50
HUBBARD -- In the first half of the Div. III sectional game, Warren JFK doubled up its score against Pymatuning Valley as it led 40-20 at intermission.
The Eagles' (13-8) balanced attack had four players in double figures with J.J. Townsend leading the way with 21 points. Stephan Flannigan chipped in with 13.
Corey Shontz paced Pymantuning Valley (13-8) with 18 points.
The Eagles will go against top-seeded LaBrae Friday at 6 p.m.
Bristol 76, Ledgemont 60
WARREN -- With the score tied 54-54, Bristol had to go an overtime to eliminated Ledgemont in the Div. IV sectional tournament at Warren Harding High's gymnasium.
Joe Haikerode paced the Panthers (19-6), who outscored Ledgemont 12-4 in the extra period, with 19 points. Mark Warmeling led the losers with 20.
Newbury 64, Bloomfield 40
In the second contest, Newbury led 33-18 at halftime in crusing to the victory. Steve Perlic sparked the winners with 21 points. R.J. Gorman led the losers with 22.
