2 are recognized for service to regional community agency

WARREN -- Crossroads Resource Conservation and Development Council has honored two area residents for their support of the council, its projects and the local community.
Richard Houk of Newton Falls was recognized as council member of the year. Also honored was Alex Bobersky of Warren, who recently completed a two-year term as executive board member.
The council, a New Philadelphia-based regional not-for-profit organization, recently had its annual meeting at the AA Executive center in Canton.
The award given to Houk goes to someone who makes a significant contribution of time and effort to Crossroads.
Houk had served as executive board member, president of the council, chairman of several committees, and was integral in making the annual campaign a success.
During 2004, Crossroads was active in its 12-county area with several projects, including the Dry Hydrant Program that provides local fire departments with the funds to place hydrants in the lakes, ponds and streams of remote areas that are not accessible to pressurized municipal water. The hydrants allow fire departments to fill tankers with available water during a fire.
Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson, Tuscarawas, Mahoning and Muskingum counties participated in program. Other counties served by Crossroads are Coshocton, Guernsey, Stark and Trumbull.
Crossroads council's mission is to assist residents in utilizing, conserving and protecting their resources to enhance the community's environmental and economic conditions through cooperative projects.
