PREP SWIMMING Five individuals and three relays set for state meet



Warren's Tyler King will compete in two individual events this weekend.
CANTON -- Five area individual swimmers and divers, along with three relay teams, have qualified to compete in this weekend's Ohio State Championships at the C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Warren Harding's Tyler King and Boardman's Conner O'Halloran were the only two area swimming qualifiers in the boys Division I competition, while the Spartans also qualified all three relay teams.
In Division I girls competition diver Kelly Reese of Canfield and swimmer Hayley Robinson of Boardman were the lone area qualifiers this past weekend at Cleveland State's Busbey Natatorium.
Diver Mary Vallinger of Poland was the lone area Div. II qualifier.
King, a senior, qualified in two events, the 200 freestyle which he is seeded sixth and the 100 backstroke where he also seeded sixth.
O'Halloran, just a freshman, qualified in the 50 freestyle and is a 16th seed.
200 medley relay
Boardman's 200 medley relay team of O'Halloran, Chad DeAngelo, Brian Worhatch and Mike Barringer is seeded 24th. Those same four swimmers also qualified in the 200 freestyle relay with a 16th seed. O'Halloran, Worhatch and Barringer teamed with David Shilling to qualify in the 400 freestyle relay and are seeded 23rd.
Reese a senior at Canfield qualified in the 1-meter diving and is seeded 8th, while Robinson, also a senior will be making her fourth straight appearance in the 100 breaststroke where she is seeded 16th.
Vallinger, a sophomore at Poland, will be seeded 22nd in the 1-meter diving this weekend.
Swimmers and divers had to have finished in the top four places at last weekend's district championships to qualify for the state meet.
The diving event will be held Thursday, while the swimming events are slated Friday and Saturday.
