Phantoms endlosing streak
BOARDMAN -- The Youngstown Phantoms ended a six-game losing streak Saturday night with a 10-3 victory over the Toledo Ice Diggers at The Ice Zone.
The Phantoms scored a team-record seven goals in the second period. Rob Rassey scored three goals and added two assists, and Owen Meyer recorded a natural hat trick with three goals in the second period. It marked the first time that two Phantoms registered hat tricks in the same game.
Eight players had multi-point nights for Youngstown (22-19-3), three points ahead of Fairbanks for third place in the NAHL's North Division.
Marc Menzione had a goal and three assists, and Chris Smith set a team record with four assists by a defenseman. Anthony Ciraulo had three assists and Aaron Rhyner scored his team-leading 30th goal to go along with two assists.
Anthony Canzoneri added two assists, and Craig Dulman scored his first goal of the year and had an assist.
Jerry Kuhn turned away 24 shots for his 16th win of the season.
The Phantoms travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to play the U.S. National Under-17 Team in a weekend series Saturday and Sunday.

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mooney/Ursuline/Boardman club hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with Rocky River.
MUB was led by goalie Joe Carothers, who stopped 37 shots.
Jeff Hyatt scored MUB's only goal on an assist by Brady Hankinson.
MUB's next home game will be Friday at 6:30 p.m. vs. Harborcreek. This is MUB's last home game this season. Seniors and team sponsors will be recognized prior to the game.

*NEW ORLEANS -- Andy Kelly threw for 315 yards and seven touchdowns, leading the New Orleans VooDoo to a 61-47 victory over the Philadelphia Soul.
New Orleans won its third straight after an opening loss. Kelly went 27-of-43 and threw two touchdown passes to Aaron Bailey, Thabiti Davis and Lamont Moore.
Tony Graziani completed 19 of 34 passes for 283 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions.
Steve Smith had eight catches for 145 yards and four touchdowns for the Soul (2-2).
*LOS ANGELES -- John Kaleo threw seven touchdown passes, three each to Tony Locke and Jerome Riley, to help the Los Angeles Avengers beat the turnover-plagued San Jose SaberCats 71-69.
The defending ArenaBowl champion SaberCats (1-3) committed three of their four turnovers in the second quarter, with Mark Grieb throwing two interceptions and James Roe losing a fumble.
The Avengers (3-1) capitalized on the turnovers to score 27 straight points. Kaleo threw 21- and 4-yard touchdown passes to Locke, who was playing his first game for Los Angeles, and a 43-yard scoring pass to Riley. The Avengers also scored on Greg Hopkins' 3-yard interception return.
The SaberCats cut it to 71-69 with 18 seconds left on Grieb's 9-yard touchdown pass to Barry Wagner. Dan Frantz's onside kick went out of bounds and Los Angeles ran out the clock before an announced crowd of 13,088 at Staples Center.
Kaleo completed 22 of 38 passes for 327 yards to help the Avengers match the best four-game start in their six-season history. Locke led Los Angeles in receiving with seven catches for 118 yards, and Riley had five receptions for 105 yards.
Grieb was 31-of-46 for 399 yards and seven touchdowns. Roe had 10 catches for 147 yards and three TDs, and Rashied Davis caught eight passes for 117 yards and two TDs.
Wagner set the AFL career reception record by catching seven passes, giving him 952 for his career, surpassing the retired Eddie Brown's mark of 949.
IOC delegatesarrive in New York
NEW YORK -- Flag-waving supporters of New York's bid to host the 2012 Summer Games greeted delegates of the International Olympic Committee on Sunday night, the start of a fast-paced four-day visit.
The members of the IOC's evaluation commission arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport and later were welcomed by the cheering New Yorkers at the Plaza Hotel.
New York is the third stop for members of the IOC after Madrid and London. They will also visit Moscow and Paris before selecting the host for the 2012 Games on July 6 in Singapore.
Events were to kick off today with a pep rally at Rockefeller Center, near the famed skating rink, and the IOC members will spend the day in meetings at their hotel. Former Sen. Bill Bradley, a member of the U.S. Olympic team that won the gold medal at the 1964 Games, will address the group Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the delegation will take in jazz at Lincoln Center and then have dinner with Mayor Michael Bloomberg's townhouse. From their hotel, members of the IOC can see Central Park and "The Gates," the art installation spread across 23 miles of the park's footpaths.
The IOC members hold a press briefing on Thursday before leaving.
New York is already swathed in Olympic logos and signs promoting its bid. Billboards, bus shelters and street poles are decorated, along with the city's 4,000 subway cars, 7,000 buses and 13,000 medallion taxi cabs.
Visits are planned to all the Olympic venues.
