Women shock No. 23 Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Youngstown State women's basketball team used outstanding 3-point shooting to knock off No. 23-ranked Wisconsin-Green Bay, 60-56, Saturday afternoon.
The Penguins snapped a seven-year, 55-game home conference winning streak by the Phoenix, who suffered only their third loss of the season (22-3) and their first defeat in the Horizon League (13-1).
YSU improved to 10-15 overall and 4-10 in the Horizon League.
Seniors lead way
Seniors Jen Perugini, Barb Fabianova and Cathy Hanek led the Penguins, scoring 12, 11 and 11 points respectively.
Fabianova and Hanek each made three 3-point goals as the Penguins connected on 10-of-18 from long range to record their first-ever victory over the Phoenix after 12 straight losses.
"We just played the way we know how to play," said YSU second-year coach Tisha Hill. "We were fortunate to beat a great team today.
"We did a good job pressuring them and that took an effect on their shooting," she added. "Normally they will hit those open shots, but today they didn't.
"We focused a lot on what we did the first time we played them. We wanted to contain and pressure them and that's exactly what we did," Hill added.
The contest was close throughout with eight lead changes and five ties.
Take early lead
The Penguins jumped out to a 13-9 advantage during the first nine minutes sparked by a trio of 3-point shots from Hanek, Melissa Tarrant and sophomore Kristy Gaudiose.
The Phoenix came back on a 5-0 run to regain the lead 14-13, but the Penguins wouldn't let them get away.
Trailing 26-21 with 2:25 remaining the Penguins scored the final eight points of the half, six of them on two 3-pointers from Fabianova and last second basket by freshman Lauren Branson off an assist from Gaudiose to hold a 29-26 lead at intermission.
The Penguins never trailed again.
Hanek's 3-point shot with 14:40 remaining gave the Penguins a nine point advantage, 37-28, but the Phoenix cut it back to two points, 39-37, with 11:45 to play on a basket by Tiffany Mor, who led Green Bay with 18 points.
YSU built the lead back up to nine points 52-43, before the Phoenix made a final run.
Phoenix within three
Green Bay got to 59-56 on a 3-pointer by Natalie Berglin, then got the ball back after a turnover with 16.3 seconds remaining.
But a 3-point try by Mor fell short, and Perugini got the rebound and was fouled. She hit one of two free throws with 4.9 seconds to go to seal the victory.
With the loss, Wisconsin-Green Bay failed to wrap up the Horizon League title outright. Leading Wisconsin-Milwaukee by two games with two games remaining, the Phoenix will try to clinch the outright championship Thursday at home against the Panthers.
Youngstown State will return home Thursday to play Detroit at 7 p.m. The Penguins wind up the regular season Saturday at UW-Milwaukee at 3 p.m.
