PREP WRESTLING Fitch puts four in state meet



Boardman will send three wrestlers to Columbus next weekend.
MASSILLON -- The Fitch High wrestling team qualified four athletes for the Division I state tournament starting Thursday at Ohio State University's Schottenstein Center.
Boardman will be sending three to the 68th annual tournament. The top four wrestlers in each weight class advanced.
The Falcons' Nick Bodnar (33-4) lost to sophomore Derek Foore of Wadsworth for the 135-pound championship in the district at Perry High School Saturday night.
Fitch freshman Tony Jameson (34-4) defeated B.J. Boosz of Canton GlenOak in a 103-pound consolation final, R.J. Donadee (21-8), a junior, topped Eric Dougherty of Hudson in the 140 consolation final, and senior Anthony Gigliotti (33-4) beat Tim Becka of North Royalton in the 145 consolation final.
Jon Green (28-5) of the Spartans was beaten by Zach Mizer of Perry in the 130 title match, while Adam Chizmar (26-9) lost a 119 consolation final to Boomer Fechko of Brunswick.
The 215-pound consolation final between Justin Powell of Boardman and Nick Simon of Shaker Heights wasn't completed in time for today's edition.
Perry was leading the team standings with 124 points, followed by Wadsworth with 110 and GlenOak with 86.
Fitch was seventh with 65, Boardman was 10th with 55 and Canfield was 23rd with 26.
Division II
AKRON -- Sophomore heavyweight Nathan Sharp (34-2) of West Branch handed senior Rob Holbert (33-1) of Howland his first loss of the season, 10-4, in the district championship match at Firestone High School.
Sharp, in earning a return trip to state, lost twice earlier this season to Holbert, in the finals of the EOWL tournament and the sectional tournament.
Brandon Rydarowicz (26-10), a Hubbard heavyweight, lost to Xylon Purkiss of Ravenna in the 275 consolation final.
Howland sophomore Kyle Gantz (34-4) decisioned Matt Walker of Alliance 8-5 for the 215-pound title, and teammate Steve Wall beat Brian Dean of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, 6-4, in the 112 final.
Chase Skonieczny of Walsh Jesuit decisioned Max Pearce of Poland, 6-1, in the 125 title bout.
Junior Andy Lamancusa (34-0) of West Branch was in the 140 championship match with Chris Kriebel of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, which was not completed in time for today's editions.
Mentor Lake Catholic led the team standings with 128 points, while Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary was second with 126 and Walsh Jesuit was third with 125.
West Branch seventh with 76, Alliance was 14th with 36, Hubbard was 22nd with 26, Salem was 23rd with 24 and Poland was 27th with 20.
Division III
TWINSBURG -- Jackson-Milton will send five wrestlers to state and Brookfield will send four following the district meet at Twinsburg High School.
Jackson-Milton finished in third place in the team standings with 115.5 points, behind champion Berkshire (197) and runner-up Bedford Chanel (157.5).
Cuyahoga Heights was fourth (100) and Brookfield fifth (99.5).
Leading the Bluejays was 145-pound champion Nick Dierkes, an individual champion at 145 pounds. Dierkes defeated Brookfield's Ross Tice 3-2 in the championship match.
Also advancing for Jackson-Milton were Mark Gibbs, runner-up at 135; Adam Keck, runner-up at 171, and Mike Wiseman (152) and John Rozum (160), who each placed third.
Besides Tice, Dave Dillon (third at 140), Tristan Thompson (fourth at 112) and Brad Harnett (fourth at 130) will be going to Columbus.
