AREA MEN DeMonaco's 30 lifts Westminster



Titans top Waynesburg and will host Thiel in PAC tournament on Tuesday.
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Mark DeMonaco scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Westminster College men's basketball team to a 127-108 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Waynesburg on Saturday.
The Titans closed the regular season with a 15-10 record, including 5-5 in the PAC, while the Jackets fell to 8-17, 2-8.
Westminster will be the fourth seed and will host an opening-round game against fifth-seeded Thiel in the PAC Tournament at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Westminster led 56-48 at halftime, but the Jackets opened the second half with a quick run, closing to 59-54. The Titans responded with a 15-2 run to lead 74-56 with 17:09 remaining, and held a double digit lead the rest of the way.
DeMonaco added six assists and three steals. Craig Hannon tied his career-high with 26 points, while Pat O'Connor and Chris Hatch added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Junior forward Dom Joseph had 11 rebounds.
Bethany 78, Grove City 71
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Bethany College (22-3, 9-1) built a seven-point lead in the first half of the Presidents Athletic Conference game, then held on for the victory.
Matt Drahos, with 12 rebounds, and Jim Deeo paced Bethany with 18 and 16 points respectively. Phil Bushre led Grove City (13-11, 6-4) with 21 points.
Shippensburg 69, Slippery Rock 53
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Shippensburg (15-9, 5-4), tied 31-31 at intermission, outscored Slippery Rock (7-18, 5-5), 38-22 in the second half.
Chuck Davis sparked the winners with 26 points. Bill Johnson paced Slippery Rock with 18 points.
Washington & amp; Jefferson 76,Thiel 70
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Washington & amp; Jefferson (8-17, 5-5 PAC), out in front 48-40 at intermission, held off Thiel (7-18, 3-7) down the stretch.
Brandon Studer of W & amp;J connected on 9-of-11 field goals, which included 3-of-5 from 3-point range, to finish with a team leading 22 points.
Daryl Moore and Joe Herrmann paced Thiel with 20 and 18 points respectively.
Wittenberg 77, Allegheny 47
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Daniel Russ had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Wittenberg in a North Coast Conference game.
Dane Borchers added 14 points for the Tigers (22-3, 14-2), while Danny Brywczynski and Andy Bucheit scored 12 apiece.
Allegheny (8-16, 5-11) was led by Casey McCloskey's 16 points and three assists. Chase McKim had four rebounds.
