Airport authority accepts taxi-lane bids

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Lawrence County Airport Authority has moved forward on its plans to rehabilitate the taxi lanes at the county airport.
At a meeting Wednesday, the airport authority opened bids for the work, which is to involve repairing cracks and openings along the four taxi lanes at the New Castle Airport in Union Township. Various drainage issues also are to be addressed.
The bids are being reviewed by RBS Consultants Inc. of Coraopolis, Pa., the consulting firm hired to help with the project. Mark Scappe, RBS vice president, released the names of the three companies offering the lowest bids.
Those companies and the amounts they bid are: Youngblood Paving Inc. of Wampum, Pa., $171,057; United Civil Contractors of Youngstown, $188,044; and Butch & amp; McCree Paving Co. of HillsvIIle, Pa., $190,723.
Scappe said he will review the bids and forward his findings to the airport authority and PennDOT, which is overseeing the project.
Money for the project is being provided by a block grant through the state. Scappe said, pending PennDOT approval, the contract will be awarded to the appropriate company within the next few months.
