Springfield board plans to buy bus

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield Local school board has agreed to buy a new school bus from Myers Equipment Corp. of Youngstown.
The cost of the 71-passenger vehicle is $61,228, school administrators said at the school board's regular monthly meeting Tuesday, and the state is providing $45,000 toward the purchase.
In other news, the school board wants to formalize a policy regarding athletes who participate in more than one sport a season.
The school district traditionally has allowed pupils to participate in more than one sport at a time, specifically baseball, softball and track. But school officials said some parents have complained about athletes' missing practices for one sport to attend events in another sport.
& quot;As long as the coaches are OK with students participating in more than one sport, and the students can handle it, there should be no problem, & quot; said board president Len Fagnano.
