PUBLIC SAFETY Boardman police department fills three vacant positions

The new cops replace others who retired or left for other jobs.
BOARDMAN -- Three new officers will be joining the ranks of the township police departments.
Township officers chose the three from a list of five interviewed for the positions earlier this month. Under Civil Service guidelines each of the candidates were chosen from a list of 10 prospective appointees.
The three men replace three officers who either retired from the department or left for other jobs.
The replacements are:
UMichael C. Dado, 25, of New Castle, a Warren police officer since October.
UMichael J. Faith, 30, of Struthers, a Struthers detective and a part-time officer with Mill Creek MetroParks police.
UMichael J. Sweeney, 29, of Boardman, a Poland village police officer since March 2000.
Curt B. Seditz, township administrator, said the three will start after completing physical examinations and being given the physician's OK.
The officers, who are considered cadets, will earn $40,705 the first year. They must complete a 12-month probationary period and are required to move to the township within 15 months.
Upon successful completion of probation, the officers will earn $44,400 annually.
The addition of the new officers keeps the department at 63 sworn officers -- 17 of those are captains, lieutenants or sergeants with the remainder in the patrol division.
