TAC Kershaw's shot beats buzzer



LIBERTY -- Edward Kershaw put the finishing touches on an 18-point night, sinking a 3-point basket at the buzzer to lift Liberty High to a 62-61 victory over Brookfield in a Trumbull Athletic Conference boys basketball game Friday night.
The score was tied at 45-all after three periods, but the Leopards (14-4, 11-1) had a five-point lead, 57-52, on Kershaw's basket with 3:35 remaining. A 3-pointer by Ryan Logan, though, got the Warriors (9-9, 4-8) to within two.
Twice, Brandon Cornwell of Liberty split a pair of foul shots, and his points were answered by baskets by Brookfield's Cory Richards, the last tying the score at 59 with 35.3 seconds to play. Brookfield's Greg Lynn made his only basket of the night with 7.4 seconds to go, giving the Warriors a 61-59 lead and setting up Kershaw's winning play.
Kershaw also had eight rebounds for the Leopards, while Brandon Cornwell had 16 points and five assists. Chris Harrison, who had seven rebounds, and John Humphrey finished with eight points each.
Sam King poured in 28 points for the Warriors. King also had 13 rebounds and four assists. Logan finished with 13 points, while Richards scored 10. Flynn also had four assists.
Newton Falls 61, Hubbard 41
NEWTON FALLS -- Chad Rankin scored 16 points to lead Newton Falls in a TAC game.
Eric Medallis added 14 points for the Tigers (10-8, 7-5), who led 29-20 at halftime. Marc Kanetsky scored 12 points for Hubbard (3-14, 2-10).
